endearing!

Adam Paige discovers he is Native American and adopted and longs to find his real family. Sarah Cloud is Cherokee as well and Adam learns she is originally from the town of his birth in Oklahoma so he asks for her help to trace his roots. Sarah had never planned to return to her hometown because of her own childhood pain and had decided to make her home in California. However as she comes to know Adam, she grows to love him and wants to help him find his true heritage.

This warm hearted tale is a must read for lovers of Native American stories. It is gentle & compassionate, yet wonderfully romantic! A hero as special as Adam Paige always touches my heart!

Cherokee
This is the seventh book I have read of Sheri Whitefeather's - she writes the most compelling Native American story's that really touch you.

This book centers arould Adam Paige who after his adopted parents die finds out that he is part Native American and starts looking for his Cherokee heritage. On the other hand Sara Cloud wants to forget about her heritage. Their pasts also center around alcohism - Adam in his youth and Sara who had to deal with it growing up because of her father. It is a very emotional, powerful and remarkable love story.

Cherokee Baby
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (May, 2003)
Author: Sheri Whitefeather

One hunky hero
Julianne McKenzie and her cousins travel to Elk Ridge Ranch in Texas to celebrate Julianne's 40th birthday in style. Julianne is pretty depressed about turning forty and her self-esteem is at a low, because her husband left her for a twenty-something. Sexy Bobby Elk is owner of Elk Ridge Ranch and has a ton of his own insecurities; he lost part of a leg in the accident that killed his wife three years ago. When Julianne and Bobby meet, the attraction is instantaneous but because of their insecurities, the two are slow to act upon it. After a week of flirting, Bobby and Julianne do take their relationship to the next level although both expect that it will only be a one-night stand because Julianne is leaving the ranch the next day.

Surprise! A month after she gets home from her birthday vacation, Julianne discovers she's pregnant. Julianne tries to do the right thing and let Bobby know about the baby and hope he'll make room in his life to see the baby once and awhile. To her surprise, after the initial shock, Bobby wants Julianne to move to Texas and work on the ranch so he can be a very big part of the baby's life but because of his wounded soul, he cannot offer Julianne marriage. Julianne agrees to the move but soon finds she falling in love with Bobby.

Sherri Whitefeather has again written a sexy as sin hero in Bobby Elk. The story of Julianne and Bobby trying to break through each others insecurities is sweet. If you've never read one of Sheri Whitefeather's books, start; they're great!

Very Likeable "Adult" Protagonists
This book was somewhat of a surprise for me as I expected little in the way of story and characterization from a Harlequin Silhouette Desire. I was wrong; it was a very nice story, with believable and likeable characters.

Julienne McKenzie will celebrate her 40th birthday in a few days, and her married cousins have persuaded her to join them for a week at a resort ranch in Texas. There she meets the owner, Bobby Elk. Julienne still has insecurities, having been left by her husband two years ago for a younger woman. Elk's insecurities lie in the fact that he feels responsible for the death of his young wife in a car accident three years ago in which he also lost his left leg. Julienne, who thought she was infertile, encourages Elk and they have a "one night stand" which, of course, results in her becoming pregnant.

The good thing here is there is NO secret baby plot, and there is NO big misunderstanding. They like each other from the beginning, and the repartee between them is enjoyable. Julienne tells Bobby about the pregnancy, and he wants to accept responsibility. Neither feels ready for marriage, but both are caring people whose love for the baby and each other continues to grow throughout the book. Of course, it has a happy ending.

The book is less than 200 pages and an easy read. I really liked these characters and their story.

Learning The Basics
Having been a student of the Cherokee language for many years, I must go out on a limb... I must say this one book is THE gateway to understanding the sheer complexeties of the Cherokee language. I recomend it to anyone with a sincere desire to learn my mother tongue.

a great resource for serious language students
This dictionary is very well done, albeit a bit complicated, but then the cherokee language can be complicated. The sections on grammer seem very complete.

The Cherokee Full Circle: A Practical Guide to Sacred Ceremonies and Traditions
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (30 September, 2002)
Authors: J. T. Garrett and Michael Tlanusta Garrett
Average review score:

Book Balances the Experience
I like this book because it is the answer to How Full Circle Works. It cannot replace the Experience of Full Circle. The Experience appeals to the feeling side of a person and the book balances the experience with intellectual understanding. I read it straight through in one evening.
The book tells about the wholistic and enjoyable approach the Garrett Family uses to help people into group transformational energy in the way of the Cherokee. It also tells about mainstream counseling techniques incorporated into Full Circle for insights and healing. An atmosphere of support, acceptance, non-interference, respect and love in an environment that includes nature is emphasized.
The Cherokee Full Circle book is a wonderful blend of Cherokee cultural teachings that make sense today, interesting drawings enhancing the Cherokee stories (could be used for children to color as a coloring book), and modern day group techniques. It is a book for personal growth and a book for the professional wanting to explore diversity and new/old ways and thoughts.
If any reader wants to implement a Full Circle, the actual experience would be helpful if not mandatory to success.

This is required reading for all self-determined people
Drs. JT & Michael Garrett have gifted us with yet another wonderful collection of great insights and practical ways of "be-ing." The Cherokee Full Circle provides the reader with suggested activities that help one move towards balance and harmony throughout one's daily and life-long trials. The authors show how ancient wisdom continues to have practical applications in today's world. In doing so, they illuminate the realities of truth to be timeless. JT & Michael provide a way to make choices that can connect us with the Universal Circle of Life. They remind us of the sacred in everyday life. In their book, they show how many things that we may take for granted can bring a new energy into our life ( as well as those around us ) by recognizing their relationship to us and all other things. Giving thanks, asking permission, sharing, showing respect, generosity, listening, and being a helper are just a few of the many teachings in this book. The beauty of their message relates to everyone no matter what age, background, spirituality,or location. Once the reader makes the choice to embrace "the Way of the Circle," they learn to honor all things, to listen, to see, and to act in a sacred manner. Wah Do

Truth in story/picture form
This book as a masterpiece both in its writings and the wonderful illustrations provided by Lynn. I have found this book to be inspiring, uplifting and full of truth. The stories written are not fables, but truths in story/picture format for people of all gender/nationalities/age levels to learn from. Lynn has taken the truths of the Cherokee Nation and presented them in a fashion where we can see, understand, know the way to live our lives in a respectful, peaceful, honorable way. The illustrations in the book are awesome. Beautiful artistic talent. I am looking forward to more books from Lynn. Thank you Lynn for taking the time from your busy life to carry forth truth in the manner which Creator has directed. I feel every home, every library should have this marvelous book to learn from.

Spiritually Inspiring
This book is a wonderful collection of Cherokee legends passed from generation to generation, which are still being told today by the elders. These inspiring stories are ones that will enlighten the masses. These stories will touch every socio-economic class, religion, race, and background. It is the most interesting book I have read in a long time. It tells the stories of children at play, things that happened around the sacred Cherokee reservation. Stories in which only the "Little People" could have played a part. These are real stories that continue to develop in the present and will continue developing in the future. This is a never-ending story that I look forward to reading again. It was entertaining and educational. The American Indian was and still is the epitomy of freedom. I beleive that this book emphasizes the importance of studying American Indian history and customs. Although this book is a "story book", it has a certain reality reflected in today's belief that the "Little People" are still a part of everyday life. It has a factual side that should not be ignored.

In closing, this book is the perfect mixture of intriguing, mythical stories and factual events that have shaped, not only the legacy of the American Indian, but also the legacy of this great country in which we live. We must not forget the peoples who first cultivated, depended on, and loved this great land.

Cherokee Marriage Dare (Dynasties: The Connellys)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (01 December, 2002)
Author: Sheri Whitefeather
Average review score:

Sheri Whitefeather does it again
I've recently discovered Sheri Whitefeater's work and so far I've not been disappointed. Young Maggie Connelly has a reputation as an international partier and has trouble being taken seriously, even by her own family. Maggie's grandfather, the king of Altaria was assassinated along with Maggie's uncle. Now Maggie's brother is getting ready to take over the throne of the small Mediterranean island country. At the wedding of one of her brothers, Maggie shares a dance with sexy PI Lucas Starwind. Maggie falls in love with Lucas. As a child, Lucas' world was shattered when his little sister was kidnapped and killed. He has always blamed himself for not keeping her safe. Although Lucas is attracted to Maggie, his broken soul will not allow him to share his heart with her.

Maggie is determined to help solve the case of who killed her grandfather and uncle and stole deadly information from Altaria and to prove that she is more than just a party girl so she blackmails Lucas into letting her work with him on the case. She is also determined to heal Lucas' soul so they can have a life together. Lucas fights very hard to keep his distance from Maggie but quickly learns that she is much more than the surface image everyone sees. He finds it harder and harder to resist her charms.

Sheri Whitefeather had done a good job of entwining Lucas and Maggie's romance with the mystery of what's happening in Altaria but it's her characters that really set her book apart. Being the 12th book in the Connelly series, this book does not dwell as much on developing the Connelly clan but on the people in Lucas' life. Lucas' mother is a very sympathetic character who is still struggling to deal with her daughter's murder all those years ago. I especially liked the bodyguard that Lucas got for Maggie. He's one of the most entertaining characters in the book.

Great Read, Lots of Laughs!!
What back cover says:
"I dare you to fall in love with me."
The press labeled coed Maggie Connelly young, reckless, impulsive. Actually, she was a woman in love. With Lucas Starwind. But the hardened Cherokee P.I. hid his battered heart behind a macho bravado. Maggie horned in on his case-and his life-and boldly promised: I'll heal your heart, then you have to marry me.
Luke didn't believe in love, but he knew desire. Maggie Connelly-almost half his age-dared him to feel, to want, to hope. But Luke had to resist her, for if he took her in his arms, he feared he'd never let her go...
I loved this book. It had me laughing and made me wish I could be as bold as Maggie is. This is the first book I've read about the Connelly Dynasty, but I learned alot about the other characters through reading this book, the twelfth in the series. Plus, if you are a Sheri Whitefeather lover, this book has her special blend of humor, love and one great plot!!!

The Cherokee People: The Story of the Cherokees from Earliest Origins to Contemporary Times
Published in Hardcover by Council Oak Distribution (November, 1992)
Author: Thomas E. Mails
Average review score:

Cherokee History at its best!!
Excellent text! Very detailed in explaining the origin, customs, social structure, and ancient ceremonial lore of the Cherokee people. Contains concise information regarding who the Cherokee were prior to European contact, as well as post contact.
Would recommend this text for use in teaching Cherokee Culture and History. A valuable tool for exploring and researching the history of a noble people- The Cherokee.

Extremely well written, documented and illustrated
Rev. Mails, a retired Lutheran minister, has produced a classic reference on the Cherokee people. He quotes other historians, including Englishmen who lived with the Cherokees during the 1700 and early 1800's, who believed the Cherokees are descended from the Hebrews (reinforcing Mormon beliefs that Cherokee ancestors came from Jerusalem and were Jews). The chapter on religion is very complete. The drawings, by Rev. Mails himself, are wonderful, as is his attention to detail. The bibliography is extensive.

Itse Selu: Cherokee Harvest Festival

Authors: Daniel Pennington and Don Stewart
Average review score:

Respectful, clearly written book
A missing piece of the Native American literature. So many stories are about the removal, or the myths. But how did the Cherokee actually live? What did they eat? What kind of games did they play? This book expertly deals with these everyday issues.

It is a clearly written book with bright, graceful illustrations. I enjoyed reading it to my daughters several times. And now they are older they enjoy learning Cherokee words.

An excellent book...and one every librarian should consider having.

Lost in my history!
I was astonished to read of something that pertained to my family history. I am so amazed by Daniel Pennington's writing's. He made me feel like I was there watching this in real life. This will be a great tool to teach my children about my heritage.

Old Frontiers (The First American Frontier)
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (June, 1971)
Author: John P. Brown
Average review score:

OLD FRONTIERS is pioneer/native history in compelling tales.
Brown presents factual well-documented stories of personal triumph and loss during the settling of Cherokee frontiers by whites in OLD FRONTIERS. The book is obviously a labor of love for the author. It is compelling and provacative, full of interesting characters and heroic deeds on both sides of the struggle

An rare glimpse of a little-known period in American history
I would recommend this book highly to any Native American especially those with Cherokee ancestry. The style is definitely not modern but I found the story rivetting - even more so because it is an actual historical account
